Joseph graduated from the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work in 2008 with Masters in Social Work, focusing on mental health. Following a period working in hospice, Joseph started working with clients living with HIV / AIDS at Legacy Community Health. While working towards the LCSW he earned in 2014, Joseph moved into supervision at the Montrose Center, continuing to work with clients living with HIV / AIDS, as well as the general subset of therapy seeking clients.
Joseph has a vast breadth of experience, due to his background working in adolescent mental health at TRIAD and Intracare, his stint in hospice, and his experiences working with all types of clients that might seek care in an urban health center.
In addition to his professional experience, Joseph has a BA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin. While earning both degrees, he focused on institutional racism and its effects on the wellbeing of individuals and the wider community. Topics included overrepresentation of minority males in the criminal justice system, race and medicine in the African-American life, and anti-Semitism in literature and history.
Joseph’s academic and professional experiences combine to give him a deep understanding of the ways that individual and systemic aspects can combine to influence one’s life day to day.
